 What To Do With Our Hands—A Prayer for December 1, 2020

We’re fidgety again, good Lord,
and we don’t know what to do with our hands.

The prophets and apostles, and even Jesus, all tell us
to wait and be ready.
And that’s hard enough.

But we get the sense somehow
we’re not supposed to be merely
twiddling our thumbs in the waiting.

So show us again,
and tell us anew
how to spend the gift of this day,
this hour,
this minute,
this breath,
and how to move our hands and feet
and how use these voices, these bodies, in ways
that sway with the cadence of the rhythm of your song.
