You expect
the bulk mail office
to be impersonal, bureaucratic.
(It is the bulk mail office.)
But today:
"How are you today?"
"Worried about my mother.
She has heart surgery tomorrow."
"Would it be okay if I pray for her?"
Eyes soften, almost melt.
"Yes. And--thank you."
Christ.
