"The Vulnerable Insistence of Life" 

See Christ Here Poem+Picture--June 17, 2019 

For all its blanketing weight,

the asphalt is
unable to smother
the vulnerable insistence of life.
There on the margins,
from a seam in
the monolithic pavement,
sprouts a protest: "See! Here is life!"
at the edge of the road,
roots straining for grip
in the rain.
