"Always Two Tragedies"

Every day
there are always two tragedies
playing out before me:
the first, how many bellies
went to bed empty last night
with hunger pangs;
and then,
equal and opposite
(almost Newtonian),
how numb I am
drowning in the excess
I was told was my God-given right.
